ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday issued arrest warrants for former ambassador to the United States (US) Hussain Haqqani in the Memogate scandal case.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by the chief justice Saqib Nisar, is hearing the case regarding Memogate scandal that was erupted in 2011 when Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz claimed to have received an “anti-army” memo from Haqqani.
In today’s hearing, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Bashir Memon told the bench that the agency had written to the Interpol to issue red warrants for the former ambassador.
While responding to the issuance of warrants reports, Haqqani said that such “political” warrants would not be honored abroad.
Sad that highest court of #Pakistan persists with such antics for local TV news coverage. Such political ‘warrants’ have not been honored abroad in the past, won’t work now. https://t.co/I2ckeXPVva

During the previous hearing of the case on February 8, the apex court had ordered secretaries of the interior and foreign ministers, as well as the FIA chief, to furnish a report on Haqqani’s return in one week.
Today, the court was told that the FIA has started the process to nab Haqqani.
Hussin Haqqani is criticised by certain groups in Pakistan for his alleged anti-state stance. charges brought against the former ambassador include criminal conspiracy and waging war against Pakistan.
