ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Thursday said that Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif had insulted the sanctity of public vote by having an Iqama (foreign work permit).
Khan had announced his remarks after Islamabad High Court’s verdict announcement on Asif’s disqualification petition for holding an Iqama of United Arab Emirates filed by PTI leader and co-contester Usman Dar of NA-110, Sialkot.
Khan after meeting with Dar discussing various aspects of the case, addressed the media, stating that the matter of disqualification was in no way based on personal enmity and was in the interest of Pakistan’s future.
Dar said that they were satisfied with the undeniable evidence submitted against Asif in the court. Dar claimed that the former defence minister owned his holding of Iqama as well as agreed to misappropriation of declared bank accounts in his electoral nomination papers.
PTI leader Babar Awan asserted that lower courts were bound to follow the rulings of Supreme Court (SC) on Iqama issue, previously passed in former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification case.
Asif on the other hand had denied the charges against him.
The verdict on Asif’s disqualification petition was previously withheld by a larger bench under Justice Athar Minallah on April 10.
