President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday accepted Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana’s resignation.
A notification issued by the government confirmed that the “speaker of the Punjab Assembly shall perform the functions of the governor until further appointment”.
Rajwana tendered his resignation on August 15 after serving at the post for more than three years. Speaking to the media shortly after tendering his resignation, Rajwana announced he would resume his legal career.
“Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) entrusted me with this post and I tried to repay their confidence with the best of my abilities.”
The development came after newly elected members of the Punjab Assembly took the oath, commencing the new five-year tenure of the provincial legislature.
